Online learning course deferral/ withdrawal policy

This document outlines the policy and procedure of how RICS/IFMA Training manage customer requests to change their purchased online learning study plans by means of deferral, transfer, withdrawal, or extension outside of the advertised and agreed course duration.

This policy applies to all customers of a course which has already commenced, or whereby the 14 working day cancellation period has passed.

Online learning includes distance or blended learning, e-learning and web classes.

Requests must be received in writing and include full name, email address, membership number, course name, order number, request details with reasoning and relevant justification or documentation via:

Email: fmtraining@rics.org

  1. Deferral from one course instance to another

Customers who have enrolled onto a course may request to be deferred to a future instance of the same course, providing payment has been received.

Deferrals on distance & blended learning courses will incur a fee of $200 + VAT, which must be paid in advance, due to the high value of the product and the costs incurred to us.

Request to transfer to another course

Requests to move to a future instance of a different course must be reviewed by the RICS Head of Training, providing payment has been received. If the value of the course to be transferred to is higher than the value paid, the customer must pay the difference.

Transfers on distance & blended learning courses will incur a fee of $200 + VAT.

  1. Course Extensions

Distance/ Blended Learning (exc Credentials)

Extensions on exam windows are only permitted if a matter outside of your control has prevented you from completing your course within the given timeframe, at a fee of £50 + VAT for a 2 week extension.

Extensions will only be granted once per course. If further extensions are requested a deferral to the next course instance will be required at the standard deferral fee of £200 + VAT.

Elearning, video course, web class or other continuing education (exc.Credentials)

Extensions are only permitted if a matter outside of your control has prevented you from completing your course within the given timeframe.

  1. Deferral, transfer or extension due to mitigating circumstances

Customers who request a deferral due to serious mitigating circumstances that prohibit them from completing the course can be offered a free deferral, transfer or extension.

Mitigating circumstances include:

  • Bereavement
  • Serious illness – must provide a doctor’s note
  • Unemployment / redundancy
  • Unexpected family issues

Requests must be received in writing or by email accompanied by documented evidence where applicable (sensitivity may be required surrounding serious illnesses). Where the circumstance is not covered in the above or the customer requests more than once, the request must be reviewed by the RICS Head of Training.

Customers may request an extended deferral beyond one month due to serious mitigating circumstances as defined below that prohibit them from completing the course:

  • Serious illness
  • Military duty

Requests must be received in writing or by email accompanied by documented evidence where applicable. The request must be sent to IFMA Director, Global Training Development.

  1. Request to withdraw from a course/ refunds

Elearning, video course, web class or other continuing education (exc.Credentials)

If a customer wants to cease their studies before they have completed the online course they can do so by simply not attending. However, if a customer is requesting to withdraw or cancel with a refund they must provide in writing their request with appropriate justification for a refund.

Refunds cannot be given if someone has started an IFMA course.

IFMA Credentials Return Policy

A refund may be granted for the IFMA FMP Credential Program, the IFMA SFP Credential Program, or the IFMA FM Learning System within 30 days of the original ship date if the following two conditions are met:

  • The printed study materials are still in their original condition with the shrink wrap and plastic box intact, such that they can be shipped and accepted by another purchaser; AND
  • The access code for the interactive online study tools and online final assessments has NOT been activated. (If you purchased an electronic copy of the IFMA SFP Credential Program, only this condition applies as you would not have received printed study materials.)

Please enclose a copy of the original invoice to ensure the refund is issued correctly and is processed in a timely fashion. You will receive a credit for the price of the IFMA FMP Credential Program, IFMA SFP Credential Program, or IFMA FM Learning System to the original form of payment you provided. Returns require a $10 administration fee. We do not issue credit for any shipping charges. Please allow 2-3 weeks for processing.
